Whitney Elaine Hines
Born June 24, 1979 (yep, almost 30)
I started surfing when I was probably 5. I grew up at Wrightsville Beach and my dad would take me out on his longboard. I surfed occasionally as a teenager but not as much as I wanted because I was intimidated by the other surfers, mainly guys. When I met Jesse I
really started surfing a lot more because he encouraged me to go out and not worry about what others were thinking. Once I moved to the Outer Banks I really started to enjoy surfing more because me and a bunch my girlfriends would go out and just have fun goofing around. The more we surfed the better we got and the more often we would go out and
challenge ourselves. I love to shortboard and longboard, however, I'm finding that longboarding is much more graceful and lady-like. I can't imagine life without surfing; it's really shaped who I've become. I never really did any contests because I don't like the pressure and I'm too competitive... getting angry at myself when I mess up. I figure
I should just love surfing for what it is, and not try to prove anything to anyone or worry about being the best.
I've surfed most of the North Carolina beaches. Traveled to Florida,
New Jersey, California, Hawaii
Appearances - Skipper Funderburg, of Carolina Beach, wrote a book about the history of Cape Fear surfers. He did a write up about my dad and included a shot of me surfing. I've been in ESM and Surfer a few times because I'm married to Jesse :)
I love almost all cereals. But I would have to say that Honey Nut Cheerios is my favorite. It's a very well-rounded cereal... acting as a breakfast food, a mid-day snack, and an evening treat when fried inbutter. It's also healthy... I hope.
